The NIC provides the following databases and information servers: o+ WHOIS registry of users, hosts, domains, and networks o+ NIC/QUERY browsing system o+ TACNEWS server o+ SERVICE electronic mail server The NIC provides host name translation tables, maintains domain name system server files, assigns IP network numbers and autonomous system numbers, registers network users, and issues MILNET TAC access cards. The NIC is the site of the DDN Security Coordination Center (SCC). The NIC is also the source of DDN documents and the complete Internet Request For Comments (RFC) series and index.
